Wood is variable by nature. Species, grade, sanding, texture, stain, reactive treatments, finish and light all affect the result. A useful sample is not merely a paint chip—it represents the proposed system on the proposed wood.
We recommend reviewing samples with cabinetry, stone, paint, metal and textiles in the light of the project whenever possible.

What clients usually want to know.
How is custom-prefinished hardwood different from factory-prefinished flooring?
Factory-prefinished flooring is purchased in specifications and colors established by the manufacturer. Custom-prefinished flooring allows the wood specification, surface treatment, color and finish system to be developed for the individual project.
How is it different from site-finished hardwood?
Site-finished flooring is sanded and coated after installation. Custom-prefinished material receives its selected surface treatment and finish before it reaches the installation site, reducing the amount of finishing activity performed in the home while retaining greater design control than a standard factory color.
Can you match cabinetry or an existing floor?
We can develop samples in response to surrounding materials or an existing floor. Because wood species, age, light and finish chemistry influence color, the goal is a considered visual relationship rather than an unrealistic promise of identical color under every condition.
Is custom hardwood only for large luxury projects?
No. It is most valuable whenever the material specification, color, architecture or long-term performance justifies more control. Project scale, material availability and production requirements are reviewed during consultation.
Can custom-prefinished flooring be refinished later?
Many quality hardwood floors can be renewed in the future. The answer depends on whether the floor is solid or engineered, the engineered wear-layer thickness, previous service and the type of renewal being considered.
